Mobility Wallet Pilot Program
Helping East San José families get where they need to go.

What is the
Mobility Wallet Project?
This program increases access to transportation for low-income residents and their families in East San José. Participants receive a prepaid card loaded each month that can be used for public transit, electric rideshare, and bikeshare — promoting greener, more connected communities.
Research Partnership
The City of San José has partnered with
UC Davis' Institute of Transportation and UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies to conduct a research study throughout the program.
PROGRAM GROUPS
GROUP A
• Monthly Funds: $150–$205 per month
• Duration: 19 months
• Start Date: May 2026
GROUP B
• Monthly Funds: $150 per month
• Duration: 12 months
• Start Date: September 2026


HOW THE CARD CAN BE USED
Approved Uses:
✅ All types of public transportation
✅ Electric Uber and Lyft rideshare
✅ Several bikeshare companies
NOT Allowed:
⛽ Gas purchases (funds cannot be used to purchase gas or take gas powered vehicles with Uber, Lyft or car rentals).
🚫 Any other purchases that are not for transportation (food, utility bills, etc.).
Note: The card is limited to transportation purchases only. This program is designed to promote green energy use.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible, applicants must:
1. Live in East San José within the project area
2. Meet the project's low-income requirements


APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED
The application period ran October 1 – November 16, 2025.
Eligible applicants were randomly selected for Group A or Group B.
There are no current plans to reopen — if we do, we'll announce it on social media and update this page.
